About Us -

What are Community Networks?

Community Networks were set up by the Government as part of their Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy to enable local people especially those not already involved in the voluntary or community sector play a full part in all aspects of the life of their community.

What does it do?

Provide opportunities especially for those least engaged in the organised voluntary sector, to get involved, voice their opinions, give their views.

Develop the confidence and ability of community members through training and support, to help them get fully involved in community life.

Share community views with service providers to help plan and improve local community services.

Creating new ways for people in Gateshead to participate in and influence the planning and delivery of all services to the public.

How does it work?

The Network is made up of groups or individuals, hold bi-monthly meetings, flexible format open to all. Discuss issues and concerns.

Informing debate and discussion

GCN currently has representation (local people) who sit on Themed Partnerships which include Health & Social Care, Children & Young People, Culture, Enviromnent, Community Safety, Transport, Housing, these fall in line with the four main blocks of the Local Area Agreements.
