Great News for local people of Whickham, especially those who took part in the consultations and attended the drop in which we and Go Gateshead organised to collect information and concerns of a transport issue. Below in an excert from a letter we have received from Peter Huntley the Manageing Director of Go North East.

Our original decision to divert service 43 from Burnthouse Lane via the eastern half of Broadway and Rectory Lane followed a petition from local residents on providing this link to the Health Centre.

As a result of changes that we need to make to our East Stanley – MetroCentre service (currently MC2) we will have sufficient time in the schedule for this service to divert it from Sunniside via Burnthouse Lane, Broadway (East), Broom Lane and Front Street to provide the link to the Health Centre.

With this link accounted for we will then be able to return service 43 to its original route via Broadway (West) and Fellside Road to satisfy the residents of this part of Whickham.

Subject to agreement with Nexus, Durham County Council and the Traffic Commissioner we would hope to make this change in September. Hopefully the new route pattern will satisfy both groups of petitioners.
