Who We Are

Gateshead was one of the 88 areas nationally to receive Community Empowerment Fund in 2002.

The aims of the CEFs are to involve members of the Voluntary and Community organisations (including community members and residents) to take an active role in the Local Strategic Partnerships (LSP's).

As an equal partner the VCS can help tackle problems in the most deprived areas of the country.

Community Networks bring together local voluntary and individual community members and are a mechanism for real consultation with communities and the LSP.

Since then Gateshead has become a pilot for the Local Area Agreements and the Safer Community Programme has become the Safer Stronger Communities Programme.  This line of funding also came to an end in June 2006 and the project is now funded through the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund until March 2008.
